Enrico Fermi is my favorite physicist. I have buds who work in Fermi Lab. I hope to go there soon. Best work they ever done (as HVAC guys!). They had direct hands on G -2. To be able to say you helped on such an experiment is wonderful. Proud to know such people.

My favorite Fermi story is where he went to a talk by Alfven who was trying to convince people that there was a particular dispersion relation for what we now call Alfvén waves in plasmas. He had a terrible time until he gave a talk and Fermi said something like, of course you're right.

Brian Greene has the gift of explaining the most obscure concepts in particle physics in a way that even morons like me can have the impression they understand them. Of course, when I dig deeper and ask a few questions, I’m totally lost, but that’s on me, not on him Kudos to NdGT for bringing him over
