i'm almost in the same boat as you (althoujgh I'm using the pro, so no SSD upgrade). After buying the Acasis external dock, I'm getting the same speed as the internal disk (mine internal is 512G and the external is 2T), so I think that if someone is willing to "sacrifice" a TB5 port, they can switch to a cheaper and bigger solution, without voiding Apple's warranty IMHO

Love the content 👌 Need help I'm planning a hybrid build a heavy lifting pc & a portable mac mini But i need the mac mini m4 to be efficient & not regret buying the wrong one as im in a different country & can't return like u can can in USA also a little tight on budget but i will spend another 100 dollars or so if i have to What configuration is good enough for my needs without going overkill Eating music videos, podcasts, 90 min movies in premiere pro with multiple layers of footage stacked on top of each other & transition Colour grading in davinci, neat video, want to use new ai tools in davinci to help better content, magic masks, object tracking, warp stabiliser, speed ramping, a little upscaling, denoising I can work with proxies if needed but can't stand the system stuttering Options mac mini m4 256gb + 24gb ram or 32gb ram (i can upgrade the ssd like u did to 2 tb or 4 tb)

ALWAY!!! ALWAYS!!! ALWAYS!!! backup. It is so simple under the Apple macOS/UNIX to back up using Time Machine to locally attached storage device. KISS simple. Have a hard time, understanding the amount that Apple currently charges for upgrading the amount of storage in its devices. I would be okay with them charging half the amount they do now. So an extra $ 400.00 and not an extra $ 800.00 would work for me. Thing is still feel it should be around an extra $ 250.00.

Apple storage is overpriced but upgrading internal SSD makes more sense with a notebook you are carrying around with you. I just use my existing NAS with the base MacMini and it works just fine.

If you have apple care for the computer and you do this upgrade, and you have issues unrelated to the ssd , will your apple care still be valid and will apple still fix whatever issue should arise?

If only they used a normal 2230/2242 nvme ssd instead of a 2230/2242 form factor proprietary ssd. Be cheap and much much faster. If you want an even cheaper option and know how to solder, you can get 2tb for just a couple dollars (5-10) since the flash chips are dirt cheap
