you made me realize I never really questionned who the author was when watching anime, but it's usually the first information I have when watching a movie or listening to a song
The most Fujimoto ever talked about himself was while roleplaying as his imaginary 8 year old sister on twitter and I don't know what that says about him
This Feels like a new era of Pey Videos AND IM HERE FOR IT🔥
Perfect choice for the Ludwig video lol Anonymity has led to an interesting new streaming career through Vtubing. Whether too shy or self conscious, VTubing allows creators who would never have attempted the creative world to shine. So many interesting characters and entertainers would go unheard were it not for the initial boon of anonymity. It is a bit silly how much people get wrapped up in face reveals though.
tatsuki fujimoto’s anonymity and mystery makes his work hit even harder because there is just so much, so many opportunities, to learn about his way of living and thinking from his work, and that’s what makes them hit
You should check out Ado (Japanese singer) - she's anonymous, but also extremely popular. Her stage performances are done behind a cage to preserve her anonymity.
All my favourite comic creators are tired of parasocialism ngl. In those Alan Moore & Tatsuki Fujimoto especially seem tired of growing consumerism & consumerist fandoms. Alan Moore wrote a whole article about it and as for Tatsuki Fujimoto - there's a strong anti-consumerism sentiment in all his work. To engage with the art sincerely instead of the virality around it. Every one shot of his is essentially about an artist being okay as long as there is someone who genuinely engages with the art even if it's just one person and even if that person does not like it. Look Back, Goodbye Eri and even the shorter stories. It's interesting to think on the context of these one shots which were released during his break from Chainsaw Man - a story that became so popular with so much hype that there's so much fake stories about chainsaw man & it's characters becoming these internet personalities (it's evangelion all over again).
would be really interesting to explore the other end of this topic, with Hayao Miyazaki and how much The Boy and the Heron is improved because of what we know about his life
2:00 neat face reveal moment 👍 Also I like how recently you’re talking abt more broad genres of anime, keep this up.
The trouble with using clips from look back as a background is I tend to get caught up in thinking about how amazing that moment in the film is, how beautifully they've conveyed the emotion of the moment, that I get distracted from what you are saying. Which is a real pity because lots of your vids have some really great insights.
Love that you covered this topic! Anonymity can be so powerful, yet when utilized well, people don't notice it.
You can create a parasocial relationship without marketing your face. Technoblade is an amazing example of this. Someone who never streamed with a face cam unless he was doing something that required it (like the cooking videos), yet the parasocial relationship still happened. Altough when I think technoblade I picture the minecraft skin, not the face
Bro casually showing his face like he ain't gonna make me doubt my sexuality
Woooo! 99.9k dude! Almost 100k! Congrats! Your channel has grown literally exponentially since I first subscribed to you (here since the first Frieren video :) ), and it's honestly great to see you get the recognition you deserve!
Congrats on almost 100K subs. Been around for a while. Keep doing what you ENJOY and are passionate about. Part of the interest with Fujimoto as an author is that the little we know about him is pretty weird. When I say weird, it's in a good way, relatable, honest self. He likes his horror movies, has a few funny meme'able videos of of himself online (trying to levitate), but then his work is so serious. This is especially with Look Back giving insights into serious moments of Fujimoto's life. That mix of funny, weird, and serious all coming together makes us really look forward to future works from an author that intrigues me.
This guy seems like someone who'd truly be able to appreciate the art that is the game Getting Over It.
One of the more fascinating aspects of looking at anime and manga from a predominantly Western perspective, if there is little-to-no public information given about a Japanese creator you'll find a not-inconsiderable number of Western fans will come to interpret their work based on their preconceived notions of their Japanese identity. Which is kind of problematic to judge a work based on a trait 125 million other people also share, but some fans really seem to need that meta insight beyond the text itself.
