I actually got married to my wife because of Firefly in a major way. Entered college, had no car at the time and needed a ride to school. During orientation, the mother of my wife turned around and talked to me. We were of the same nationality , so she was excited to talk to me. She introduced me to my wife, and gave me her number so I can "take care" of her. Anyway, my wife at the time was a VERY timid person - never spoke to another boy , and was very anti-social. On the first day of school, I called her early - and went to I-hop, where she didn't even take a bite of her omelet (as it was her first dining experience with a guy lol). On the way back, I was a bit discouraged by how difficult this ride situation was going to be... super awkward, understandably. As we got near her car, on the back window was a large sticker that read "Serenity", in that firefly font. I was so excited, because I had just finished that series a week ago, and was a massive fan. We were able to talk about something we both loved and while it was still difficult for her to open up, it gave us something to talk about , and eventually ended up dating her, then marrying her- we've been together 10 years, married for 6, and we still watch firefly together.
This is still one of the best scifi shows ever made.
My boss on my 2015/2016 deployment for Operation inherent resolve was a huge fan. When all of the flight medics sat down one day we realized that he built his team around the crew of the Serenity. It blew his mind when we put it to him but now he can't unsee it. We would sit down and watch the series and film together. We even got "You can't take the Sky from me" patches made for our flight helmets. Got more made when the pilots and crew chiefs wanted them and handed a few out to Aussie Browncoats that ran the Role 2/ Forward Surgical team. That patch never left my flight helmet and flew every mission with it until I had to stop flying. Keep flying
As a 22 year old, relatively young fan.. the canceled continuation of Firefly hurts more than it should. I’m truly passionate about this universe and want to see more!
When you can't run, you crawl. And when you can't crawl, when you can't do that... you find someone to carry you.
I've been asked maybe 100 times what my favorite sci-fi series is and my answer is always the same. "I have seen every episode of Star Trek, and all it's descendants, I've seen The Mandalorian, I've seen many great sci-fi series, but I know every word of every episode of Firefly, and the same for Serenity, and I aim to misbehave."
The Browncoat community is one of the tightest knit fandoms in all of science fiction. We hold an annual event called The Browncoat Ball and it’s based upon the episode Shindig. There’s usually about 150-200 of us there every year and it’s the coolest event ever.
One of the biggest problems with the Firefly series is how so few people actually knew of its existence. By this I mean people who would have become great fans never knew of its existence until long after it was canceled. My stepfather was 1 of these people. He had no clue that this show existed until I showed it to him on Netflix. When I did he was upset that it was canceled before he had ever known it even existed. Also I don't think the magic of the Firefly series can be recaptured. The culture has changed far too much. We will have to wait until another paradigm shift in the culture for it to happen again.
Like every Firefly fan, I don’t know how many times I’ve watched the TV series and Movie. It made me understand what timeless classic really means. The thought of Disney making anything related to Firefly is scary.
There was never a person that did not fall in love with this show when I introduced it to them. The song touches people in a way that is personal for each person
A few years ago now, I purchased Serenity without ever having heard of Firefly. Spoke to a coworker after watching the movie and was told about the Firefly cancellation. Luckily, I found Firefly on the shelf and made my purchase. After viewing Firefly, I found it hard to believe that it was cancelled. But, now that both are in my collection, I can have a numb butt weekend whenever I wish. That proved to be a godsend throughout the pandemic. I have enjoyed watching both to many times to count (only have four limbs) and will continue now that I'm retired. Hats off to the cast and crew for all of their efforts.
As a huge sci-fi fan, I remember seeing Serenity at the theatre for the first time. I never even heard about a show called Firefly and that the movie is based on it. But I immediately fell in love with the story, the world, and above all else... the cast. Since then, I've watched Firefly and Serenity countless times. Since it has only a limited number of episodes, it's perfect when you get in the mood, you can watch it all in one sitting. Damm... getting in the mood again :)
Knowing what was done to Firefly, I learned that the people who run the TV networks have no idea what they’re doing.
I give them a lot of credit for wrapping up the story with a movie that answers all the questions.
"I aim to misbehave..." Still one of the best movie quotes ever...
I am a grown ass, large, bald, bearded, 6’2 man in my 40s and the overwhelming nostalgia this brought forth had me crying. Good lord I loved this show and the fan base it gathered. This was before companies learned to artificially manufacture grassroots hype. This was all natural, baby. I remember being at the Chicago comic con a couple years after this was cancelled and just gathering larger and larger groups of people to talk about Firefly. Thanks for making this video, it was definitely shiny.
I fell in love with all the characters in Firefly immediately. I recorded every episode & shared them with my friends. Great scripts, perfect cast. Others were sharing episodes of Firefly at sci-fi clubs & it’s fanbase just kept growing after it was cancelled. Everyone I know owns the entire series & the movie “Serenity”. I’m still a fan of everyone involved in making “Firefly”💕
I saw a trailer for the show a few months before it aired and said to my wife: "I need to check that out." Then it aired, and I could never find it.
Keep flying Firefly! the best show ever, a masterpiece from first picture to last. May it come back to life - with the same crew.
