It's weird how short people's memories are. After round 3, nearly the entirety of the hockey world went from "wow, the Oilers are so deep!" to "lol the Oilers have no depth" two weeks later. The Klingberg/Walman pairing was one of the best D pairings in the playoffs, and yet Klingberg "had a bad playoffs"? Currently, the hockey world that I'm seeing right now is talking as if the Oilers did not completely roll over the GKnights, Stars, and (minus the first 2 games) the Kings. The internet has a short memory.

If you shave 5m off the Nurse contract, 3m off the Bouchard contract. They could easily shore up their Goaltending and Bottom 6 but nope Terrible contract signings will Doom this EDM team from winning a cup.

Only a fool would think The Oilers are close to a Stanley Cup. Their goaltending, defence all needs improvement. And their forward depth got even weaker. McDavid can see the writing on the wall, and it ain’t pretty.

Ken Holland really put them in a tough spot with the insane Nurse contract.. Also the Campbell buyout, Losing 2.3 off their cap this year and 2.6 off their cap next year because of it

I don't agree Drai's contract looks like a bargain. If he had cared about winning he would have taken team friendly salary and set an example for later contracts by others, like Bouche and McDavid; instead everyone is looking for their due, and likely feels like they deserve it due to the frustration over losing 2 years in a row. This all has the makings of becoming unmanageable with less depth than they had. Superstars alone don't win cups.

Oilers fan here. The team that went to the Cup final this past season wasn't the team that started the season. I expect much of the same this year. A lot will change, including some coaches. Agree with you that if the team can make an upgrade (goaltending), they need to do it to take that last step. It's not a hump when a team is that close to winning it all.

As an oilers ride or die it is honestly heartbreaking, devastating, and quite the head scratcher that in ‘23, ‘24, and ‘25 we went home empty handed. Arguably ‘23 was our best team and our best chance. Our offence was clicking at an absolutely bonkers rate that year, and that second round against Vegas that year actually reminds me very much of the finals this past year. The first four games were full of huge momentum swings and it looked like it coulda been anybody’s but ultimately, the oil kinda shot themselves in the foot, which is similar to what I think happened this year. Yes I do believe they shot themselves in the foot this year. I know this team well and I do believe at times it was them beating themselves more than the cats beating them.! I know not many will agree. Come at me. Honestly at this point it is a conundrum. We kinda just have to wait till ‘27 when nurse’s no move gets turned into a partial no trade list. Bouchard is integral to the fabric and dna of this team now so I have no problem with cap hit but we can’t win if we have so much tied up in nurse. Hoping Ekholm is willing to take a significant discount as a veteran depth d after so that we can keep Walman. He was a stud in getting us to the conference finals basically by himself leading the left side and eating huge minutes and tons of pucks. So much has to go right now. Savoie and tomasek need to be home runs. Nuge and Henrique and Hyman and Ekholm all have to magically say no to Father Time, Frederic needs to go beast mode… yeah and not to mention goaltending. These were our 3 best chances so far the last 3 years. Not saying Stan can’t make moves and get a roster together that gives us an even better chance in the coming years. But yeah it sucks to see those 3 seasons ‘wasted’ per se
