We noticed a group of viewers being unhappy with our storytelling of the rise of Shia and the caliphs. Please keep in mind the shia movement very much existed though not officially, more politically, as they supported the caliph Ali to be the first (shiatu Ali). All in all within Islam, groups never agree with one thing or another, so we just took the neutral point, if you don't like it, don't watch it :face-blue-smiling:

Just a minor correction, the Persians were never majority shia until the 16th century. In the 8th century most shias were concentrated in southern iraq, which even then was majority proto sunni.

Just some info: Abd Al-Rahman doesn't means servant of God, it means servant of the most merciful. Easy mistake to make since "Al-Rahman" is one of Allah(swt)'s names.

Hello, I'm from Saudi Arabia and studied the history of the Umayyad. actually at that time even after the Abbasids planned to kill every single Umayyad some of them hidden in Damascus and many of them ran to Taif (a city south to Mecca, and still exists). they descents of those who ran to Taif live today in the same city.

He didn’t run with his family only with 2 of his brothers . His family stayed in Damascus bc he knew Abbasids will not kill women and children, and her brothers died in front of him when the were crossing the river not when he were sleep and he was 19 not 20

a small correction that you can check any sources for

arabs (only muslim arabs) pay zakat which is a tax spent on the poor and needy of the country, as well as the obligation to be part of the army and fend off anyone who would try to attack the empire
non muslims who lived under the empire rule regardless of their nationality do not partake in wars and join the army, so they pay whats called a jizya which is the tax you refer to in 3:20, go check any sources you find and this is the case, there was no racism in islam, in the modern arab world maybe some arabs favor themselves over other arabs, but only true muslims follow the prophet peace be upon him, and one of his orders which our Prophet (ï·ș) said in his Farewell Sermon, ​“You are all from Adam, and Adam is from dust. There is no virtue for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for a white person over a black person, nor for a black person over a white person, except by righteousness”  anyone who does not follow this order of the prophet is not a true muslim that has submitted his will to god, this jizya is about them gaining the protection of the empire without having to go into war, i understand its a misunderstanding as many people repeat this myth that it was basically something arabs did to gain superiority over non arabs, but please look into it further, and thankyou for reading this

One correction for 3:33 during that time, not all Persian were Shia, a lot of the Persian were still Sunni, Shia being the sect of all Persian people is fairly recent only after Safavid Dynasty (since 1501 AD) took over.

Minor correction, the jizyah or tax that non Muslims had to pay under the Islamic nation were a smaller amount than the tax Muslims had to pay, also know as zakat.

So don’t make out Islam in a dark light without actually looking into it
