Why does た (ta) become だ (da) in Japanese after you stick on the two dots called a 濁点 (dakuten)? This phenomenon is actually called "voicing / devoicing" and it happens in all languages too, including English!
We are actually unaware of how much we do it in English in words like "speech", "screen", "store", and "was"- all of these have voiced sounds in the exact same places that Japanese allows you to put a dakuten
