This was the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers’ 2nd meeting of the 2000-01 season, and the 2nd since their NBA Finals matchup the previous year. On November 28th, Shaq and Kobe combined for 64 points en route to a 17 point win. Entering Conseco Fieldhouse on February 18th, the Lakers’ record stood at 33-18. Led by new head coach Isiah Thomas, the Pacers found themselves at a disappointing 23-28.

Shaquille O’Neal put together perhaps the greatest individual NBA Playoff/Finals series performance ever in June of 2000. In 6 games against Indiana, he averaged 38.0p and 16.7r on 61% in nearly 46 mpg. Included were 3 separate 40+ pt games, at least 30p/10r in all 6, and only the 5th 40p/20r game in Finals history. He won his first of 4 championships and first of 3 straight Finals MVP’s.
