Language is complicated. We all acquired our native tongue without being aware of how it happened. Because of this, some people overlook just how intricate and elusive languages truly are. Some excel at exams. They may have mastered all the vocabulary and grammar covered in N1, but that doesn't mean they can speak Japanese well. There's a difference between understanding a language and being able to use it. Just as knowing the physical mechanics of skiing doesn't make you a good skier, language learning requires more than just knowledge.
