Soli Deo Gloria-Sheila Walsh

Soli Deo Gloria recorded by Sheila Walsh. This song was inspired while visiting a church and listening to a man sharing his testimony before we took communion. He mentioned the Latin phrase "soli deo gloria' and said it meant "to God alone be the glory". I'd never heard it before, so in typical songwriter fashion wrote it down on a card from the pew in front of me and stuck it in my coat pocket and forgot about it.

Many months later I came across the card and revisited it as a possible song idea. I called the church and asked the pastor if he remembered the testimony and who gave it and he did indeed, amazingly. He called the man and told him the deal. The man wanted to know if there was any monetary reward for sharing any info he had, especially if it ended up being a song. I told the pastor no, who relayed my response, and the man said well then he wouldn't talk to me. I don't think he could've responded in a manner any less in keeping with the spirit of "soli deo gloria" haha.

In any event, I did my own research, including calling one of my old Bible college professors to confirm the proper pronunciation of the phrase as well as its history/meaning.

It was a thrill for Scottish-born Sheila Walsh to record the song, as I'd been a fan for a long time. The song was not singled, however, and didn't make much noise until Word publishing did a choral/orchestral version that took the form of a much more accessible almost classical-sounding arrangement. My favorite performance of this arrangement is this heart-tugging version by a Ukrainian national youth choir/orchestra:    • Soli Deo Gloria - Объединенный молодежный ...

My prayer is that this song inspires you to give glory to the one true God of all creation, the great and almighty I Am, from whom comes every good and perfect gift, even our next breath.

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Psalms 19:1 (NASV)

SOLI DEO GLORIA

Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone be the glory
Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone be the glory

From the watercolor sunset
To the emerald trees
In the raging of the ocean
In the rustling of the leaves
It's the heartbeat of the forest
It's the rhythm in the rain
It's the song of all creation
That will never be contained

CHORUS

Let it thunder through the mountains
Let it roar across the plain
Let His mercy and His wonder
Be an anthem unrestrained
It's the shout of every pilgrim
Who's been shown the holy place
It's the cry of every sinner
Who's been covered by His grace

CHORUS

Every woman, every man
And every creature in the land
Has been designed to understand
There is a higher power
Every woman, every man
And every creature in the land
Has been created by His hand
He is a mighty tower
(Soli Deo)

CHORUS
