Count up the Lionfish with me! And I hope my “grouper call” at the end made you laugh. 😂 Scientists have observed Lionfish eat up to two fish per minute throughout the day! And we’re all seeing how these invasive species are destroying native fish populations.
This single artificial reef had 19 Lionfish on it, and with multiple structures at this dive site we removed 62 Lionfish on a single dive!!! (I have a previous reel about how fast they breed that I’ll put into stories today)
From my page you can tell I’m not a huge hunter, fisher or spearfisherman, but maybe it’s time you try lionfishing on your next dive trip. Pensacola has dive operations like Ocean Strike Team and Dive Pros that can set you up to both help remove some of these invasive Lionfish species, and also have a fun, educational dive getaway. All while helping the reefs. Lionfsh Zookeeper’s insta page is also a great source to help you understand how a single invasive fish has unbalanced our Florida ecosystem and our reefs and native fish are suffering because of it. I use their keeper to hold the fish while keeping myself save from their venomous spines! 🙌🏼
If you made it to the full count of 19 in this video, I hope you enjoyed my “grouper call” that I did to signal Brady about the last Lionfish. 😂
Also, feel free to leave Brady a 🏆 because he cleaned all this fish, donated many to the food bank, and sold the rest to a local restaurant to raise money for his Ocean Strike charity.👏🏼
